Many of us cant even imagine a world without our precious Gmail. It is pretty much the most perfect email client ever, and for the most part, we rely on it every day. Every now and then, Google will do things to change the look and feel of Gmail. They will add new features, they remove features, and they change features. If these changes throw you off, and you’d like to have some control over how your Gmail account looks and feels, then you should check out Gmelius. Gmelius is a browser extension for Google Chrome, Firefox, and Opera. It lets you customize your Gmail and pick what features show up on your account, and where they show up.
The Gmelius extension has been around for quite some time, but most people have never heard about it and it is just starting to gain the popularity that it deserves. If you haven’t heard of it before, then it is for sure worth at least trying out. It is extremely easy to use. All you do after you install it is click on it from the extensions page, click options, and then open the checklist. From the checklist, you will have the option of adding, changing, or removing any Gmail feature that you please.
There is even an option to remove the ads. If you check the box for ads, it removes all of the ads from the top, right, and bottom of your Gmail page. It doesn’t deactivate the Gmail filtering that scans for key words in your email though. That’s how Google decides which ads to place in your account. But it will make sure that you never have to look at them again and you can enjoy your email distraction free. You can also completely remove Google Chat if you don’t use it, and the “Consider Including” suggestions that pop up when you are addressing your emails.
The next section gives you the option to make changes to Gmail’s header, and in the third section you can make changes to your actual inbox. You can even bring back the old compose window if you miss the way it used to be. There are several extensions dedicated to just doing that, but none of them have as many options as Gmelius.
Gmelius’s most useful and popular settings are located conveniently on the first tab. The second tab includes a list of premium features, which include three more settings. Since Gmelius is still for some reason in beta, these premium features are still 100% free.
If you haven’t given this a try yet, I would recommend doing so. Gmail is already almost perfect, and having the ability to tailor it to your own personal needs and wants is the perfect way to make it… perfect. Never again will you be distracted while trying to take care of business or be thrown off by whacky add-ons and new features that you don’t particularly care for.
